Gelatin dry plate on glass, preserved in original Heinrich Hoffmann archive sleeve with typewritten caption "1013 Hitler, erste Porträtaufnahme -Sept.- 1923", size glass plate 16.5x12 cm, a small piece is missing from the lower right corner. Accompanied by a contemporary Copress Munich print (a tear on the right-hand side). This glass plate constitutes the photographic source material of the earliest known portrait of Adolf Hitler (1922/23). Heinrich Hoffmann was the only photographer whom he trusted from early on. From this relationship emerged what later became a de facto monopoly over Hitler’s official imagery. Includes a multi-page provenance report documenting the complete ownership chain, contract copies, cheque copy, sworn affidavit, and archival documentation.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
