Description
Improved successor model of the deck launcher ("Decklancier-Apparat") M1889. The tube assembly consists of three parts, bolted together. It's made of top-quality seawater resistant bronze, with external controls and an end-cap. Most parts with matching number "1827", and the additional marking "1827 Links G 6" and "1827 Rechts G 7". Radial roller bearings allow targeting with the tube rather than the entire boat, as was necessary with the previous models. Most likely the same model was also in use with the imperial Austrian and German Navies, and after the war with the Reichs- and the Kriegsmarine. Length ca. 750 cm, weight ca. 1.8 metric tons. Not checked for completeness. The tube was compatible with torpedos of type G/6 (length 6 m, charge of 160kg of a TNT/Hexanite mixture, range of up to 5 km) and G/7 (length 7 m, charge of 195 kg Hexanite, range of up to 9.3 km), put in service in 1911 and 1913 respectively. Given the consistently high price of and demand for bronze hardly any tubes will have survived. Extremely rare!
