Description

Large bronze medal with relief profile (punch cutter "Jos. Tautenhayn"). The bearer's name "Robert Wilhelm Bunsen" engraved above the date "1892" in a laurel wreath on the back. Diameter 90 mm. In a brown leather-covered presentation box with gold-embossed decoration on the lid and burgundy velvet and silk lining. Comes with the silver medal named after physics professor Rudberg in Upsala with a relief profile (punch cutter "L.A."), dated 1863. Diameter 31 mm. Signs of age and handling. Moreover, a handwritten postcard addressed to "Frau Landgerichtsdirektor Bunsen", a relative of Robert Bunsen, dated 22 February 1897 (contents not related to the award). This decoration dated 1892 is mentioned on p. 242 in Georg Lockemann's 1949 biography of "Robert Wilhelm Bunsen". A copy of the relevant extract is enclosed with the lot.
