Description

Upright oblong bronze plaque (with green patina in places), flanked by antique pillars. A laurel wreath in the triangular gable at the top. The long Latin text, engraved in the noble Roman script of the Capitalis Monumentalis, appears in a more recent handwritten translation on the back of the plaque. It is an homage to Bunsen from his Heidelberg colleagues, praising the 70-year old for his virtue, dignity and humanity, as well as his scientific achievements in the fields of chemistry, physics and geology. The date, 17 October 1881, is written in Roman numerals („DIE XVII M OCTOBRIS MDCCCLXXXI"). Production marks, signs of use and age. Dimensions 31.7 x 17.3 x 1 cm, weight approx. 1.7 kg. Very imposing. Moreover, a handwritten postcard addressed to „Herr u. Frau Landgerichts Director Bunsen" (relatives of Robert Bunsen), dated 1 January 1890 (contents not related to the award).

Provenance: Consigned directly from the family estate.
