A Dutch or English rapier with silver-inlaid hilt, circa 1610

Description

Narrow thrusting blade with a flattened medial ridge. The upper quarter with a slender fuller on both sides, struck with the amulet inscription „IESUS * MARIA. The sturdy ricasso engraved with a linear ornament on both sides. The iron swept hilt with fine, silver-inlaid floral ornaments on the front (minor defects here and there). Rectangular grip with iron wire winding and sturdy Turk's heads. The oval pommel with silver inlays is probably a historicism replacement. Length 126 cm.
