Description

Sturdy, double-edged blade, the surfaces slightly pitted, with triple fullers on both sides. Three hallmarks struck at the root on the obverse. Iron knuckle-bow hilt with a small, old repair in brass solder. Original grip (worm damage), the leather cover has been lost. Turk's heads in copper wire. Flat, rectangular pommel with a small boss on both sides, length 94 cm. Typical weapon carried by Venetian foot soldiers in the late 15th century. Similar swords can be found in the Doge's Palace in Venice and in the collection at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, for example.
