Description

The skull forged in one piece, the slightly offset comb finely serrated at the top edge (two minor defects). A border of iron lining rivets. Small repair above the right-hand cheek piece. The peak made in one piece, tapering to a point with a turned and roped comb. Hinged cheek pieces with rosette-shaped pierced openings for hearing. One hinge slightly defective, the cheek piece loose. The riveted neck guard with a turned and roped edge, two suspension holes. Original lavishly etched ornamentation in typical Nuremberg Renaissance style. Alternating strips of scrolling bands with arabesques and birds amidst decorative tendrils. The surfaces with a dark age patina, some areas stained. Can easily be improved with expert cleaning. Height 30 cm.
