Description

The skull forged in one piece with a flat comb. Original blackening, a polished linear ornament raised by hammering on each side. The front of the skull extending into a short peak, the edge turned and roped. Hinged cheek pieces, each with five pierced openings for hearing. Original leather loop to attach the chinstrap still in place. The riveted neck guard with a turned and roped edge, two suspension holes. Original leather lining on the inside. Height 24 cm. A special, rare exemplar of the burgonet without the distinct peak. This helmet type is often found in Switzerland; the armoury collections of Solothurn and Zurich, among others, include similar helmets.
