Description
Glazed white porcelain. Detailed depiction of an archer with fur-trimmed cap, holding his arc (upper part missing) in his right hand and a quiver filled with arrows in his left, a shortsword at his feet. Square base with curved sides, the bottom open with sceptre mark with blue underglaze in the form used between 1770 and 1780 as well as impressed model number "494". Apart from the missing bow end without damage. Height 28.5 cm. Extremely rare. The centrepiece was manufactured in colour by Wilhelm Christian Meyer (1723 - 1786) for the tsarina. King Frederick II of Prussia ordered it as a gift to Tsarina Catherine II to thank her for withdrawing from the alliance with France and Austria during the Seven Years’ War. The finished centrepiece with numerous figurines of both Russian and subjected peoples was exhibited in Berlin in 1772 before being transported to St. Petersburg.
