Description

A large, carved hunting horn in elephant ivory with a beautiful age patina. Scenes carved in high relief on both sides. One side with a detailed hunting scene: in the middle, a stag is being mauled by a hound, while another stag lies slain on the ground and is held by a hunter blowing the hunting horn. On the other side, a scene featuring a medieval jousting tournament, with two knights and maids by a fountain. An extremely elaborate portrait cartouche with the French kings François I and Henri II on both sides. The lower edge embellished with fleurs-de-lys and extending into points. An old carrying cord attached. Three points at the horn aperture knocked, otherwise only minor imperfections. Length 91 cm. - With CITES from April 2024.
