A pair of fine German flintlock pistols from the princely armoury of Carl Eugen of Wurttemberg, circa 1760

Description
Round, slightly conical barrels with distinct central rib, smooth bore in 13 mm calibre. Blued, marked "Hampel á Ludwigsburg" on the ribs (added later?). Fine gold-inlaid mirror monogram "CC" surmounted by a princely coronet at the breech, surrounded by scrolling leaves. Chiselled flower and rocaille decoration at the lower barrel ends. Lightly engraved locks with strongly cambered plates. Slightly carved full stocks with light horn noses. Brass mounts with engraved and chased rocaille decoration. Wooden ramrods with horn tips. Length 36.5 cm each. Carl Eugen (1728 - 1793) ascended the throne in 1737 at the age of nine and was the ruling Duke of Württemberg from 1744 to 1793.Provenance: Georg Britsch, art dealer, with a certificate of authenticity and the original invoice from October 1986 for 22,000 DM.
