Description
Slightly curved single-edged blade with double-edged point. The base with broad flat fuller on each side terminating in double fullers. Surfaces stained, slightly pitted in places. The upper third decorated with partly rubbed etchings on both sides. Male bust with motto "Soli deo gloria" and further epigram. Iron hilt with thumb ring and guard plate with fine openwork on both sides. The S-shaped quillons terminating in delicately cut lion heads. Original grip wrapped with iron and copper wire, on the sides two iron guard bars, finely braided Turks’ heads. Iron lion head pommel with inserted tongue. Length 92 cm. Hilt in characteristic Swiss shape. Similar sabres can be found, among others, in the inventory of the armoury collection of the Bern History Museum.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
