Broad double-edged blade of lenticular section, the upper half with flat fullers on both sides. On one side two large orb marks inlaid in brass, the opposite side with one orb mark. The point with distinct pitting. Straight quillons of rectangular cross section. Grip with black leather cover above cord wrap (well-replaced). Disc pommel with eight facets and straight-armed cross struck on each side. Length 107.5 cm.Provenance: Acquired in 2021 from an art dealer. Belonged to the private collection of the Chauvin family in France until 2016. The sword stems from the inventory of a church in Marseille and was acquired from its sexton together with a helmet by Chacques Chauvin in 1969. A copy of the purchase agreement is enclosed.
