Description

Einteilig gegossene Musketengabel aus Bronze, mit schöner Alterspatina. Die beiden Enden der Gabel in plastische Drachenköpfe auslaufend. Am unteren Ansatz einseitig das Ordenskreuz, auf der Gegenseite das Wappen der Medici. Runde, konische Tülle mit Bandgliederung. Am unteren Rand seitlich eine Befestigungslochung. Höhe 18 cm.
Der militärische Orden des Heiligen Stefans (Sacro Militare Ordine di Santo Stefano Papa e Martire) wurde 1561 von Cosimo I. de Medici mit Genehmigung von Papst Pius IV. gegründet. Das Ziel des Ordens war der Kampf gegen Türken und Piraten im Mittelmeerraum. Mitglieder des Ordens kämpften erfolgreich bei der Belagerung von Malta (1565), der Schlacht von Lepanto (1571) und der Eroberung von Annaba in Algerien (1607).
Eine identische Musketengabel befindet sich in der Sammlung des Museums Stibbert in Florenz.

The pre-sale viewing will take place from Oct. 18 - 21 and Oct. 28 - 31, 2020 from 2 to 6 pm (CET). However, the number of participants for both auction and viewing is limited due to Covid-19 restrictions and requires an appointment. Bring your favourite breathing mask!
