Description

Blued, octagonal barrels with four-groove rifling in 11 mm calibre. The breeches featuring the signature "Galand Paris" at top and Liège acceptance mark stamped at bottom. Serial number "3097 71" stamped on the underside between nose and muzzle. Colour case-hardened breech plugs and tangs, with floral engravings, adjustable rear sights. Colour case-hardened locks engraved with a floral design. One pistol with a repair to the hammer. Walnut half stocks with carvers mark "JNI" struck on the inside of the nose, chequered butt stocks and finely carved noses in the form of lions. Florally engraved, colour case-hardened iron furniture. Length 41 cm each. In associated wooden case. Inlaid decorative trim and vacant brass monogram plate on the lid. Key missing. The interior with green velvet lining, gold embossed maker's name on the lid. Accessories consisting of a powder flask with powder gauge, brass dosing spoon, bullet mould, screwdriver, nipple wrench, two wooden wadding boxes, a grease tin, loading hammer, ramrod, cleaning rod with screw-on cleaning eye and bullet puller. Measures 8 x 48.5 x 27.5 cm. Charles Francois (1832 - 1900), manufacturer and designer, strove to break the English monopoly as a producer of high-quality weapons.
