Description

Bicorn of black mohair felt with surrounding gold lace trim, on the side clasp of silver and gold bullions with gilt anchor button, the points of the hat with gold bullions, smooth white silk lining with Japanese lettering embroidered in red, complete with elastic chinstrap. A pair of epaulettes of gold lace to loop in, thick gold bullions, embroidered flower symbols, applied silver anchor, backed with black leather. The epaulettes are attached to the bicorn cover of iron sheet lacquered in red. Beautifully preserved parade tunic of fine dark blue wool cloth with collar richly embroidered in gold and silver (anchor symbol), gilt anchor buttons and sleeve stripes in the rank of rear admiral as well as white silk lining with collar label "Yamashiroya". White silk waistcoat with back of fine linen cloth. Comes with a pair of trousers (moth damage) of dark blue wool cloth with gold lateral stripes and black buttons of synthetic material, sabre belt of black leather with gold lace and gilt buckle with applied silver anchor and blossom, in a round white cardboard case. Furthermore, Wasuke Komaki’s personal shaving set comprising shaving brush, razor and brush in a brown leather box (carrying handle torn off on one side), the top with inscription "W.K.". Also, two multilingual instructions regarding the enthronement of the Japanese emperor (Hirohito), ten official Japanese invitation cards, a German navy pocketbook dated 1917, a silver cigarette case (mark of fineness "935"), a tobacco pipe and a box with visiting cards of Komaki, all in a brown leather suitcase with embossed name "W. KOMAKI". Comes with more than 20 photographs and letters/picture postcards written, among others, by the German admiral Paul Behncke (1930) to Komaki. Also, approx. ten books and notebooks as well as several tacked typewritten essays, among them a German one on espionage. Slightly damaged in parts, traces of use and age. Significant, high-ranking admiral's estate.
