Description
White silk cloth with three-sided silver fringe. Both sides exhibit a hand-embroidered, black army eagle with contrasting brown feathers, beak and talons rendered in gold raised embroidery on a field of cream-coloured silk, surrounded by a silver embroidered oak leaf wreath beneath which is an Iron Cross, four applied swastikas in the corners. Ink signatures across white cloth from American soldiers of Company L, 417th Regiment, 76th Division. Ca. 141 x 121 cm. Soiled, and fragile condition with many restoration repairs completed in 2004 by "Textile Konservering, Stockholm, Sweden". Included is the streamers with clasps "16. März 1935" and "16. März 1936", the finial with swastika removed. Documentation of research and restoration included.Shipping from the USA.
