Description
Ostrich egg with gilt silver mounts. On a naturalistic pedestal with raised foliage. The ostrich standing with its head raised. Body made of an ostrich egg with finely worked feathers. The neck has a hinge, but does not move. Hallmarked with the crescent moon, crown, fineness "800" and faded master's mark. Height 40 cm, total weight 1,485 g. Modelled after a piece by Leipzig master goldsmith Elias Geyer from the late 16th century, three of which still survive in Dresden's Historic Green Vault.
