Cal. .36 Blackpowder, Nr. 29550. Octagonal 7.5" barrel. Six shots. Made by the Whitney Arms Company of New Haven, Connecticut, year of production ca. 1865. Five-groove rifling, frosted bore. Brass trigger guard. The barrel top roll stamped "E WHITNEY / N HAVEN" in two lines. Loading lever at some stage reblued, turned brown. Six-stop cylinder. Top strap with sight groove, a sight groove in the hammer tip, a brass pin front sight on top of the barrel. The original bluing either gone or turned brownish, with only a few small parts / screws with some remainders of niter blue. The serial number is stamped on the underside of the barrel, top of the loading lever and inside of both oil-finished walnut grips. The serial number inside the trigger guard is about 330 off - looks like 29216, so probably a typical armory mix-up. Timing is not so good. Rear of cylinders is pretty worn, so the hand doesn't always manage to move the cylinder to locking position. The Whitney Arms Company manufactured more than 33.000 Navy Model revolvers between the early 1950ies and 1866, which were to a large extent purchased by the US Ordnance Department.
