Octagonal smoothbore barrels, cal. 13 mm. Silver front sights, gold inlaid marks, the barrel tops marked "Delpire Paris Rue St. Dominique No. 951". Finely engraved tangs with standing rear sight. Engraved flintlocks with sliding safeties (defective) and set triggers. Maker's marks on the lockplates. Carved full stocks. Wooden ramrods with horn tips. Length 37 cm each. In a fitted oak case lined in somewhat faded baize, with accessories including bullet mould, powder-flask, screw driver, cleaning rod etc. Dimensions 47 x 26 x 8cm.According to a letter provided by the family these pistols were the property of General Baron Pierre Decouz (1775 - 1814), commander of a brigade of the guard in the battles of Dresden and Leipzig. In 1814, while heading his troops, he was mortally wounded in the battle of Brienne. According to this letter these pistols were a gift from Marshall Joachim Murat (1767 - 1815) and remained within the family until the year 2000. Condition: II Questions about the lot?
