Description
Heavy type with six rivets, on short pin, type 2, typically manufactured by Deschler & Sohn, multi-piece construction, no chipping in the enamel, weight 63.53 gr, signs of wear, good condition. A very rare variant on the short pin; only approximately 400–450 examples of this variant are known to exist, see the reference Book “Deutsche Orden und Ehrenzeichen” by Jörg Nimmergut on page 2203. Oberleutnant d. R. Erich Trimpop was awarded the German Cross on 30.12.1944. As the decoration was not available on the day of the award ceremony, his superior officer presented him with his own German Cross. Unfortunately, Trimpop was unable to return the Cross after the war, as his superior had been killed in action.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
