Description
Light green POW form (“Form No. 4, June 11, 1943”), addressed in his own hand to “Frau Emmy Göring - Straubing (Danube) - Passauerstrasse Penitentiary - Germany.” Written in pencil: (tr.) “My dearest! I hope you are at least receiving my letters, given that I have only had that one card from you. [...] The situation in Germany looks grim. Everyone who had any connection to the State or the Party has been arrested or is dead at the hands of the Russians. The atrocities (discussed) in the trial continue daily. We are supposed to be responsible for them, yet we are hearing about them for the first time today. It is grotesque that the Russians, of all people, are accusing others of atrocities. A few days ago, I read a review in a magazine [...] from 1932 regarding the Goethe Festival in Weimar. You were singled out for praise in the role of Gretchen; it was said that you saved the performance. [...] With boundless longing and love, your Goering (H) kisses you both.” Folded; partial browning and small tears along the edges. Emmy Göring was imprisoned at the Straubing penitentiary from October 1945 until approximately March 1946.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
