Description
Rigid body made of pressed field-grey felt with sewn-on leather visors and grey metal fittings; features a "Model 91" side knob on each side and a brass neck rail at the rear. The embossed brass plate bearing the unit number "500" is attached at the front via split pins (no double holes). Grey top disc secured by four round-headed split pins. Folded-down neck curtain made of field-grey cotton (stained), held in place at the front by a leather strap. Well-preserved black leather tab liner. Small area of loss on the edge of the rear leather visor. Minor localized damage; clear signs of wear and age. Extremely rare. Produced in limited numbers for troops stationed in Serbia; this specific example features leather visors. Cf. Kraus, Die feldgraue Uniformierung des deutschen Heeres 1907–1918, Vol. 1, p. 107. These helmets originated around 1915 and were worn without a spike or cockades; for service in Serbia, they were fitted with a neck flap.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
