Description
Tombac body with a ribbed back, a riveted, smooth front visor, a riveted neck shield, nickel silver trim (regimental mark “C.4.I” for the Carabinieri Regiment, 4th Squadron) and round rivets. Screwed onto the front (double holes, traces of solder) is the silver-plated star with a coat of arms overlay (small dents). Leather-lined convex chin-scales (the front link is missing) attached to screwed geometric rosettes; on the right is the imperial cockade and on the left the state cockade, both made of lacquered sheet iron. At the top, a silver-plated pointed oval base with four round-head screws and a detachable smooth tombac spike. Well-preserved blackened leather lining (with a few small losses), the underside of the front visor painted green (worn), the lower part of the rear visor covered in dark brown leather (losses to leather); at the crown of the helmet, the maker's mark “G.H. Osang Dresden” and the size mark “58”. Along with a field-grey cover (four hooks) – which doesn't quite match – and a helmet case (leather straps incomplete). Slightly damaged, with signs of wear and age. Rare and impressive. From 1904 onwards, the front visor of Saxon crew helmets was no longer serrated, in accordance with the Prussian Model 1889.Condition: II - III Questions about the lot?
