Description
A sturdy, hexagonal Colichemarde blade (slightly pitted in places), etched on both sides at the top with the sovereign's initials FA beneath an electoral bonnet (traces of gilding) for Frederick Augustus III (1763–1806). Multi-part brass-cast hilt, kidney-shaped shell guards, curved, transversely ribbed grip. Exceptionally well-preserved original leather scabbard (shrunken) with brass fittings and a movable carrying ring as well as a heart-shaped suspension stud. Partially slightly damaged, with signs of wear and age. Length 99.5 cm. A rare Saxon sword; see Hilbert, Blankwaffen, Berlin, 1998, nos. 35/36. Colichemarde blades can already be found on the personal field swords of Augustus the Strong.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
