Description

Issue piece. Black lacquered leather helmet body (showing some fine cracking/crazing) with gilded non-ferrous metal fittings (showing rubbing/wear). Eagle emblem attached via leather wedges; black leather chin strap on "Model 91" buttons (iron, wartime production); complete with both lacquered sheet-iron cockades. Smooth, rigid spike mounted on a base plate secured by four round-headed split pins. Good black leather tabbed liner; stamped on the rear visor with "T XI", "1911", "4 Esk" (indicating *Kurhessische Train-Abteilung 11*, Kassel, 4th Squadron) and size "53"; handwritten name of the wearer, "P. Dünkel". Minor localized damage; shows signs of wear and age.
