Description

Similar to the British M 1796. Sturdy, single-edged blade with fullers on both sides (stained) with a central point; decorative etching on both sides (traces of gilding) against a blued background, featuring trophies, scrollwork, and an "a deux saison" cartouche. Brass knuckle-bow hilt (traces of gilding), fixed kidney-shaped languets, the missing urn-shaped pommel has been replaced at a later date with an incorrect part (the replacement is loose). Fine Silver wire wrap. Blackened leather scabbard (shrunk, craquelures) with brass fittings. Partly incomplete, slightly damaged, Signs of age. Length circa 100 cm.
