Description

Fine red cloth, dark green velvet facings and stand-up collar, gold braiding, the initials '5DG' and the motto 'VESTIGIA NULLA RETRORSUM' on the cuff buttons, looped gold-braided epaulettes, each bearing three rank stars (Captain). Inside, a quilted green-grey silk lining; in the collar, a label from Hawkes & Co. bearing the wearer's name 'E.W.S. Balfour Esq.'. Accompanied by a gold-embroidered waistcoat in dark green velvet (13 cm horizontal tears across both front pockets), hook fastening, back panel in green silk, light-coloured cotton lining (tears). Partially slightly damaged, signs of wear and age. Extremely impressive.
