Description

Gilt copper (partially abraded), enamelled, movable crown, "29 K" engraved on the inside of the suspension ring. On the original, 35 mm ribbon. Width of the cross 31 mm, weight without ribbon approx. 8.5 g. Signs of age and wear. Extremely rare find. Consigned from the same source with a short ribbon section and two small field orders clasps. The engraved "29 K" refers to the 29 crosses in gilt copper that were awarded during World War I. Von Retze received this great distinction in honour of his bravery in the Second Battle of Bapaume (21 August - 3 September 1918) in repelling the enemy who had already advanced and recapturing seven of his own guns.
