Description
Octagonal barrel slightly indented in the middle with seven-groove rifled bore in 20 mm calibre. The top struck with decorative marks and dated “1661”, later altered to “1764”. Further struck decorations at the muzzle. On the left at the breech brand of Kutschera Wenzel of Bautzen (according to Heer, Der neue Stöckel, No. 675). Converted percussion lock (defective) with needle trigger (trigger needle broken off). Lock plate signed St. Etienne(?), struck with a crowned “I” and “85”. On the reverse struck Chapovion(?). Slightly carved walnut full stock with engraved brass furniture and patch box. Partially smoothed over. Iron ramrod. Shaft partially heavily worm-eaten and with several traces of repair, one chip on each side of the nose and two chips around the tang plate. Nose missing. Small loss to the front of the trigger guard, tang plate cracked at the screw. Lock not firmly seated, one screw of the lock plate backing missing, one screw replaced. Length 162 cm. Presumably originally a military rampart rifle, later converted for civilian use as a heavy target rifle. The lock likely replaced during its period of use.Condition: III + Questions about the lot?
