Description
Circular lamp body in top view, the high sides strongly convex and transitioning at the front into a wide, obtuse-angled upward-bent spout, which has a ridge at the front and bottom. On the inwardly projecting border of the spout, an incised line accompanying the mouth rim, followed immediately by four perforations with incised circle-eyes between them. On the lamp body, a ridge running from the rear that spirals outward at the centre of both sides into a spiral-shaped knob. Behind this knob on both sides a rosette, in front of it a whorl, and between the whorls, behind the spout, a drop-shaped ornament. Around the oil filler opening, a band of circle-eyes in slightly differently shaped polygons, framed by two ribs. The lidded cover is fitted with a fully three-dimensionally modelled head of a big cat and is attached with a flaring, smooth border by means of a cheek hinge. At the bottom, a conical, high foot with an inwardly drawn wall and a distinctly splayed border is soldered on. In the lower part of the foot, a band of sequential arches, below which a meander. The handle, once presumably soldered to the rear part of the body, is no longer preserved; only the attachment point remains. Very beautiful, dark green Patina, partially with minor incrustations over it. Length 12.6 cm. Height 10.5 cm. CULTURAL ASSET!Provenance: Private property in the Rhineland, acquired from the father’s collection (estate), which he had purchased on the German art market between the 1960s and 1980s.
