Description
Slightly flattened at the top, disc-shaped oval representing the lower part of a typical Early Bronze Age idol with three stylised heads. Of the heads, only the round-sectioned neck stumps at varying heights are preserved. The disc decorated on the front with elaborate incised ornament. Along the border a band of diagonal hatching between two fronts. Directly above the centre, two identical bands running horizontally one above the other. Above these, four large circle-eyes in the spaces between the bands and neck stumps. In the lower half, an isosceles triangle with a herringbone pattern, divided in the centre into two halves by a vertical front along the superimposed angles. Above this a front of large circle-eyes; below, in the fields to the left and right of the triangle, one slightly larger circle-eye each. On the reverse, a herringbone pattern only along the course of the necks, which are otherwise smooth. Minimal chips, otherwise intact. Preserved height 13.5 cm. Wide 14.2 cm. Comparable idols bearing these typical shaped and stylistic elements generally originate from the settlement of Kültepe in Cappadocia or its immediate surroundings.
