Description
Watercolour heightened with white, on paper. Bears signature lower right "A. Stamer (?)", inscribed below "Paris – 99". Inscribed "45/29" in pencil to the reverse, lower left. Standing male nude seen from behind, the head turned to the right, the hips covered by a close-fitting reddish-brown textile; both arms extended forwards, the hands grasping a vertically falling, folded expanse of what appears to be drapery. Even cockling throughout the paper support. Losses to the paint layer in the upper right quadrant along the edge of the image. Chipping to the lower edge, to the left and right of centre. Browning to the lower edge. Two tear repairs, backed with paper to the reverse: at the right edge of the image and at the upper edge of the sheet to the left, in the area of the mount. Adhesive residue from an earlier mount to the upper outer edges at the left and right and to the lower left edge of the sheet; the sheet laid onto a support board with paper hinges at the upper edge.
