Description

Brush and brown and black ink and wash, heightened with white, on paper. Bears signature lower left, "PEINER". The sheet is tape-hinged to the mount. An expansive mountain landscape: a wooded knoll to the lower left, a jagged range beyond, banks of cloud with veils of rain above; conifers, shrubs and tufts of grass in the foreground. Scattered brown spots (foxing) to the upper part of the composition. Dimensions: sheet 51 × 66 cm, frame 69.5 × 83.5 cm. Peiner settled at Kronenburg in the Eifel in 1931; landscape dominates his late work.
