Description
Mixed media on paper (printed ground with subsequent hand-colouring). 1) Christ at the Column. Depiction of Christ bound to a column as a full figure. The body is rendered in strict frontality, the anatomy defined by clear, contour-defining linework. The flesh tones are applied in flat colour, with sparingly used reddish accents suggesting the wounds of the flagellation. Background and architecture are strongly reduced, serving to focus attention on the central figure. Continuous dark border line with partial gold-coloured accents. Image dimensions 11.8 × 17.2 cm; frame dimensions 16.2 × 22.1 cm. 2) Pietà (Maria with the dead Christ). Maria holds the lifeless Christ; the figures are calmly and frontally arranged, the composition concentrating on the relationship between the two bodies. Precise, contour-defining linework; flat colouring with differentiated modelling of the flesh tones. The garments are executed in clearly delineated colour fields. Continuous dark border line with partial gold-coloured accents. Framed in plain wooden frames. The paper supports each with age-related yellowing. Isolated creases and fold marks. Locally minor abrasion of the colouring, particularly near the border and corners. Overall in stable condition. Image dimensions 11.3 × 17.1 cm; frame dimensions 16.6 × 22.7 cm.Condition: II Questions about the lot?
