Description
Dark brown leather straps, decorated with individually stitched cowrie shells. Headstall, parade throatlatch with double row of shell trim, and reins. The iron curb bit bears the maker's mark "Passier & Sohn", with nickel silver buckles. Partially slightly damaged, showing signs of age and use. Bridles with cowrie shell trim were already worn in the 18th century and were used by some German hussar regiments. Cf. Herr/Nguyen, Die deutsche Kavallerie, p. 492.
