Description
Gold, punched „900 GOLD" on the edge, weight 55.42 g, diameter 40,54 mm. The front depicts the founder of the Ludwigsburg-based company Johann Heinrich Franck, the inscription around the edge indicates his name and dates of birth and death: „JOHANN HEINRICH FRANCK *2.2.1792 + 11.9.1867". Chiselling and embossing by „M. u. W. St.", the „Stuttgarter Metallwarenfabrik Wilhelm Mayer und Franz Wilhelm". Inscribed around the edge on the back with the company's name in 1928 „HEINRICH FRANCK SÖHNE" and the years „1828/1928" in the polished centre of the octagon in the middle. Founded in 1828 and based in Ludwigsburg from 1869, the company Heinrich Franck Söhne was a major manufacturer of coffee substitutes (chicory, Caro coffee, Kathreiner). The company became the largest coffee factory in Germany, merged into the Nestlé Group in the 1970s and closed the Ludwigsburg plant at the end of 2018.
