A distinguished pair of Ottoman flintlock pistols, possibly Tunisian, circa 1800-1820

Description

Octagonal-to-round smooth bore barrels with offset midribs, calibre 15.5 mm. Lavish, gold-inlaid décor with a mascaron amidst leafy vines at the breeches. The locks with domed lock plates, engraved with chased and gold-inlaid decorative tendrils. A mark with Arabic script struck on the insides of the locks. The full stocks lavishly embellished with wire inlays of gold and silver. Silver furniture with decorative tendrils inlaid in gold, the butt caps with gold-plated mascarons. The silver barrel sleeves finely engraved and chased, inset pseudo ramrods with fullered bone tips. Length of each 50 cm.
