A fine pair of Ottoman silver-mounted flintlock pistols, dated 1849

Description

Octagonal-to-round barrels with smooth bore in calibre 15mm, burnished finish. A gold-inlaid pseudo signature (LONDON?) at the middle of each barrel, extensive, fine gold-inlaid floral décor at the breeches. A silver-inlaid signature with date 1265 (=1849) to the left of the breech. Walnut full stocks entirely covered in fine spiral inlays of silver wire (a few small imperfections). The locks with rain-proof pans and lavish, gold-inlaid ornamentation. Inscribed "NO..." under the pans. Arabic marks struck on the insides of the locks. Lavish fittings in extremely delicate, gilt silver filigree, the sections behind the tang and on the thumb plate set with coral cabochons. Iron trigger guard with silver-inlaid embellishment. Length 45 cm each.
