A deluxe French rapier with chiselled hilt in the style of 1600, circa 1880

Description

Original thrusting blade of flattened diamond section, circa 1600. The upper third cut with a slender fuller on both sides, struck with the inscription "IN TOLEDO". The iron swept hilt entirely covered with finely chased floral décor between rows of beads. The obverse guard plate depicting a scene of mounted combat. Octagonal iron grip, the oval, octagonal pommel with offset riveted button. Length 122.5 cm.
