Description
Narrow thrusting blade of triangular section with original polish and perfectly preserved bluing. The upper third etched with decorative gilt tendrils and trophies. The iron guard with delicately chased, sculptural décor on a chiselled gold background. Two depictions of armed horsemen in a landscape on the double-sided guard plate. The end of the quillons shaped like a fully sculptured lion's head, soldiers standing with rifles on both sides of the quillons. The knuckle bow adorned with floral tendrils and trophies, the end extending into a lion's head. Original grip with opulent gold wire winding and fine, gold-inlaid silver bands. Oval pommel with depictions of horsemen on both sides. Length 96.5 cm. Remarkable deluxe courtly weapon in almost mint condition.Provenance: According to the consignor, it was acquired from Peter Finer in London.
