An Indonesian kris with ivory wrangka and gold-foil scabbard, Sumatra, first half of the 20th century

Description

Long, straight and blackened pamor blade with a sturdy medial ridge, deeply chiselled at the root. Selut in gilt silver, set with gemstones, mendak and grip plated in gilt silver and also set with gemstones (two stones have been lost). The grip in the shape of a deity in festive robes. Lightly carved ivory wrangka on the front (the wrangka probably mounted incorrectly at a later date). Black-grained wooden scabbard, plated in sheet silver on one side, the sides hammered with floral ornaments. Gold-foil décor on a stippled background in the upper third. Length 63 cm. Includes a current CITES certificate dated 16 December 2025.
