Description
Iron with a dark patina, gold and silver inlays (koftgari). Fully sculptured figurine of a standing stag with raised head and multi-point antlers; the body voluminous and stylised with slender extremities. The entire surface covered in koftgari decoration in gold and silver on a background of cross hatching: horizontal rows of wave tendrils, braided bands and flower rosettes on the torso, a floral medallion on the flank, palmettes and tendril motifs on the neck and croup. Mounted on a profiled wooden plinth with curved corners and a cartouche inset on the front. Even, dark brown patina; areas of abrasion on the surface. Koftgari decoration on the neck, back and croup greatly reduced and lost in places, the iron background with oxidation layer exposed. A corrosion pit on the left ear; an old solder seam visible on one antler point. Wooden plinth with scratches and partially rubbed paint. Dimensions of the sculpture approx. 34.5 × 20.3 × 7.9 cm, including pedestal approx. 45.5 × 24.0 × 9.7 cm.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
