A German armada chest, 1st half of the 18th century

Description

The rectangular body made of sheet iron with contoured edge reinforcements, the four lateral edges decorated with semi-circular openwork panels. A false keyhole on the front and carrying handles on the side with large, lavishly openworked fittings (occasional defects). A central keyhole on the lid, the rectangular lock cover with a hidden mechanism. Elaborate lock mechanism originally with sixteen movable latches, eleven of which are preserved and functional. The mechanism restored, some pieces replaced. Domed chaplet with a fine disc knob, the hollow shank key a good replacement. Lavishly openworked cover plate. The base mounted on four modern casters.
