Description
Porcelain, some gilt highlights. The set comprising a coffee pot, cream jug, sugar bowl, plus 26 cups and 25 saucers. All pieces with a coloured coat of arms and opulent gilt embellishment on the front. All cups and saucers with a blue underglaze sceptre mark on the base. The pot, cream jug and sugar bowl unmarked. The saucers signed with the respective aristocratic families of Georg Graf zu Münster, mostly dated between 1840 and 1845. The families including Below, Blücher, Scheve, von Droste, von Finckenstein, von Maltzahn. The inside edge of the sugar lid chipped (not visible on the outside), one cup with spalling at the upper edge. Gilding partially rubbed. Height of the coffee pot: 23 cm, sugar bowl: 19 cm, cream jug: 18 cm. Presented to Georg Herbert Graf zu Münster von Derneburg (1820 London - 1902), a member of the noble Münster family. He was the son of Graf Ernst Friedrich Herbert zu Münster and Wilhelmine Charlotte zu Schaumburg-Lippe (1783–1858), a daughter of Philipp II zu Schaumburg-Lippe. Moreover, he was a member of the student association Corps Borussia Bonn. His property included the former Derneburg Monastery near Hildesheim.
