Description
Oil on canvas, re-lined. Military genre scene depicting an infantry unit marching on a hill and two mounted officers; in the foreground, an officer and a civilian in conversation. Panoramic landscape with distant views of hilly terrain, a village with a church and some half-timbered architecture. Rhythmic series of incidental figures drawn with precise lines; the historicist depiction in the style of Albrecht Adam's Napoleonic military scenes. The uniforms of the troops generally indicating the Napoleonic era. Framed in a gilt, moulded frame, probably 20th century with superficial abrasion marks. In good condition, consistent with its age. Uniform, fine-meshed craquelure across the entire surface; appears stable without any discernible active peeling of the paint. The surface covered in glossy varnish. A few superficial irregularities and slight soiling. Size of the painting 56.7 x 69.9 cm, size of the frame 73 x 85 cm.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
