Description

Cal. 15,5 mm, SN. 575. Matching numbers, except bolt handle. Octagonal-to-round barrel with reinforced muzzle. Unusual chamber area, rifled with four lands and grooves. Smooth, bright bore. Several markings in the chamber area, amongst which "60". On top stand-up rear sight with folding sight. The left side of the action marked "Soemmerda ND", the right side "1856". Walnut stock with iron trigger guard and a brass-made finger rest. Iron butt cap with a lug for a shoulder stock. The stock a bit bumped in the trigger area, the tip with a light hairline crack. Length 45,5 cm. According to Vollmer, "Deutsche Militär-Handfeuerwaffen", Vol. 14, this pistol was not adopted in 1856. However, this specimen is probably a trial gun, as its specifications match Vollmer's description.
