Description

Official portrait photograph on a white background with the personal papal coat of arms of Pius XII and his handwritten ink signature "Pius pp XII," on the reverse handwritten "9922." Under glass in a plain silver frame with the personal papal coat of arms (bent) applied beneath the tiara. The reverse and the stand are covered in reddish-brown velvet. Dimensions approx. 38 x 28 cm. Pius XII (birth name Eugenio Maria Pacelli) was Apostolic Nuncio to Munich in 1917, from 1920 for the Weimar Republic, from 1930 Cardinal Secretary of State in Rome, and from 1939 to 1958 Bishop of Rome.
