Description
Heavy construction, the gladius blade with traces of nickel plating and inscription "Gladio et mente" (by sword and wits) inlaid in dark red on the reverse. The solid bronze hilt with partially preserved gilding, the grip piece in the shape of a fasces, an eagle with wings outstretched on the front of the pommel, above the inscription "DUX" and a flaming altar with the Roman numerals "MCMXX" (1920) and "MCMXXX" (1930). The Milanese coat of arms "Biscione" on the back. The quillons with the Italian coat of arms on both sides, flanked by lion's heads. The blade notched in one place. Length 48 cm, weight 2.26 kg. The 2nd Congress of the Fasci di combattimento in May 1920 was of crucial importance for the development of the fascist movement in Italy because socialist voters left the Fasci after the PSI won the parliamentary elections in December 1919, paving the way for the founding of the PNF in 1921.Condition: II - Questions about the lot?
