Oil on hard fibre board, signed at the bottom right, barely discernible. View of the crowd in front of the Rathaus Schöneberg in West Berlin, with the coffins of seven victims lying in state. The Rathaus flying the flags of Berlin and the Federal Republic of Germany, the guests of honour and mourners surrounded by flaming pots set on high pillars. In a partially gilt wooden frame. Size of the painting 28 x 35.5 cm, size of the frame 40.8 x 48 cm. Kurd Albrecht, the "Rembrandt of Franzburg", was a Berlin painter and stage designer. He studied at the Academy in Berlin from 1902/03 as a student of Friedrich Kallmorgen. At 10 a.m. on 23 June 1953, Konrad Adenauer delivered his speech in front of Rathaus Schöneberg at the memorial service for the victims of the uprising in the German Democratic Republic on 17 June 1953, which was violently suppressed by the Soviet Army. In addition to the Chancellor, Berlin's Governing Mayor Ernst Reuter and the Minister for All-German Affairs Jakob Kaiser also held speeches to over 120,000 people.Condition: II + Questions about the lot?
